Reasons why your pump wouldn't prime:
1- Clogged suction line
(cleaner, skimmer, main drain, leaf-trap, waterfall, spa jet....)
2- Air leak in one of the suction lines under ground
3- Air leak in the pump housing
4- Air leak in one of the suction side valves
5- Air leak in the threads of the suction side nipple
6- Leak on the ozonator system
7- Pump lid O-ring bad or pinched
8- Pump drain plug O-ring bad
9- Pump drain plug thread cracked
10- In-Line Leaf basket has any of the above mentioned leaks
11- Pool level to low
12- Leaf-trap installed in the pool deck getting air through the
lid
13- Bad pump seal
14- Broken impeller
15- Accidentaly closed return side plumbing
16- Filter full of air and the relief valve does not work properly
17- A combination of any above
Reasons why your pump would only partialy prime:
1- Any of the above mentioned 17 leaks
2- Clogged pump impeller
3- Stuck skimmer wier
4- Any of the strainer baskets full of debris
(pump, skimmer, leaf-trap, cleaner.....)
Check valve problems:
1- If your equipment is more then 2-3 feet higher then the pool
level
all check vavles in place must be in good working condition
2- Negative edge check valves can get debris stuck in them
3- Check valves that are not see-through can brake and partially
clogg up
4- Often check valves get buried and can not be found
There could be other problems on custom built
pools and systems not mentioned here.
